Description
Size: 140 x 100 cm
Medium: Mixed media (oil, acrylic, spray paint, and magazine collage on canvas)
Inspired by Eugène Delacroix’s iconic painting Liberty Leading the People, this piece reimagines one of history’s most powerful symbols of revolution and freedom, placing it within the visual and symbolic chaos of the 21st century. The central figure—a semi-nude woman raising her arm—retains her archetypal strength, but now emerges through dripping paint, bold colors, and a collage of magazine fragments spanning politics, media, and pop culture.
This work creates a striking dialogue between 19th-century romanticism and contemporary urban language. Classical oil-rendered elements coexist with graffiti aesthetics, expressive dripping, and layered collage, generating a visual tension that speaks of resistance, revolution, and media manipulation.
More than a visual quote, The New Liberty invites critical reflection: What does it mean to fight for freedom today? Who leads the people in an age of information overload and post-truth? With its precise execution and powerful symbolism, this piece provokes, challenges, and moves.
